Four of the best burgers in Puerto Rico – yum time

Sunday Published by Leave your thoughts

I have burgered! I have blogged!  For the last two weeks I’ve been sunning it in Puerto Rico. Why? Because I’m not sure about Christmas. Now that Santa’s not bringing me toys Xmas just makes me feel claustrophobic. It makes me feel lethargic. It makes me feel like I don’t know what day it is, even more so than when I normally don’t know what day it is.  Christmas, for me, is better when the sun is blazing; when you don’t have Cadbury Celebrations chocolates for breakfast, because you’re having a beer. Or two. It’s Christmas! 14 days, four burgers,...

New book: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band by Barbara Pyle and Snap Galleries Springsteen exhibition

Thursday Published by Leave your thoughts

WARNING. This blog post comes with the risk of dropping a couple of hundred beans on Springsteen prints. The good news is you can also buy a book for far less. As you may have seen, a book of fiiiiine Springsteen and the E Street Band pics is due to be published by Reel Art Press at the beginning of November. The book’s the work of Barbara Pyle and captures photos of the band during the recording, rehearsing and touring of Born to Run. It’s all behind-the-scenes stuff and Barbara was one of the only photographers at the time to...

Where to eat in NEW YORK – the best breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in Manhattan and beyond

Tuesday Published by Leave your thoughts

I’ve been emailing people loads of tips about where to eat in New York, and then I realised I really should just stick them up on the old blog. Along with this list, I’d also check out this feature I wrote for the Guardian’s travel section where I use Instagram to make food-based decisions in the city. I list my fav NYC food accounts to follow and you can see where they eat. I’ve tried to divide this into meal types, and listed the locations. When I go to NY I have to annotate maps to make sure I get to...

Review: Burger at La Cayejera food truck, Seville, Spain

Tuesday Published by Leave your thoughts

Seville is famous for oranges, not burgers. Like that’s going to stop me! While my group (it was a work trip) were herded around a shawl museum (yes – a museum of shawls – this is flamenco territory), I escaped to try a burger at the city’s first food truck, La Cayejera. Here it is. It’s almost as pretty as Seville itself. I had it to take away, found myself a shady spot in the park (really nice park – Maria Luisa), while oranges plonked from the trees around me. The burger didn’t get the full love it deserved, which...

Local Miami: A burger and food tour in Florida with the Burger Beast

Wednesday Published by 1 Comment

Some of you may have seen that last year I went to Miami to eat all the food. The plan was to meet up with the Burger Beast, Miami’s biggest food blogger, and get him to show us a local side of the city, away from all those people doing weights and yoga and shit. I went with my friend Tom, and we had a right old time. The piece ran in in Escapism magazine, and I’m gonna encourage you to read it right here, because it contains shiiiit loads of food recommendations, and because it’s quite fun. Although I guess...

Bruce Springsteen, Asbury Park and the Rock & Roll Tour of the Jersey Shore

Sunday Published by Leave your thoughts

Yo yo! So hopefully some of you had a little read of my blog post on Asbury Park and the Jersey Shore. I basically put together everything I did during my day there, including bars, shops and of course, places to eat. It also includes details of my visit to the Born to Run house, 10th Avenue/E Street, the Stone Pony and the Rock & Roll tour of the Jersey Shore. You can have a skim of the post here if you fancy. I also had the chance to write a proper travel piece on the area, (the editor of...

Greetings from Asbury Park: A Bruce Springsteen fan’s Rock & Roll Tour of the Jersey Shore

Monday Published by 12 Comments

As far as boardwalks go, this is a pretty good one. In fact, in my experience of boardwalks, I’d say it’s the best. This is the boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Bruce Springsteen describes it as his “adopted hometown”, the town that has inspired lyric after lyric – songs laced with stories of the girls, greasers, cars and arcades of this beaten up beach resort. I’m no expert of the seafront promenade world, but it does look good, doesn’t it? If you’re anything like me, you’ll have pictured Asbury every time you listen to ‘Spirit in the Night’, ‘Sandy’,...

Beers and Bruce: The best bars in New York, with a bit of Bruce Springsteen

Sunday Published by Leave your thoughts

Some of you may have seen from my incessant and irritating Instagram pictures that I was in New York in December. I spent a few days eating my way around the city, before a little pilgrimage to Asbury Park for religious purposes (more on that soon). Beers and cocktails featured heavily in the trip, so I thought I’ve share a few of my favourites. Places with great tunes, stories, and music (not just Bruce Springsteen, but yeah, there is a bit of him too).  Barcade Yes that’s two words merged together to form one new word. Now normally I’m not...

Airbnb: Travelling on a budget, meeting great people and those fluffy dogs – obvs

Tuesday Published by Leave your thoughts

I am a strong-willed woman with a kind face. I’m not just bigging myself up, this is what Eirini told me when I was staying with her in Kos, Greece, last summer. Eirini likes reading about star signs, and she said that I display the typical characteristics of an Aquarius (this is my star sign, so this good). According to Eirini, Aquarians can be contrary and impatient (she had me pegged), but they also have great taste in music. So I’m just going to go with it. You may have seen from my Instagram, Twitter and just general ramblings on...

Badly Drawn Boy, Bruce Springsteen and Classic Album Sundays

Thursday Published by Leave your thoughts

Oh Bruce Springsteen fans – a great bunch of people. No need to talk about things like the weather when you realise you’re in the company of another Bruce fan. So a few weeks back I was sitting in a room full of fans as part of Classic Album Sundays, a series of events celebrating the greats of the music world. One of those Bruce Springsteen fans was Damon Gough, more often known as the musician Badly Drawn Boy.  This witty Bolton lad is a massive, MASSIVE fanboy of Bruce, so as part of Classic Album Sundays we spent the...
