PARMO

Monday Published by 5 Comments

I’m a bit miffed to only be trying parmo now. My Dad’s from Newcastle, so I’d have hoped he would have introduced me to this specialty dish from North East England earlier in my lifetime. I’ve been raised listening to Bruce Springsteen and appreciating burgers, but my dad sadly let me down in the parmo department. For those that aren’t familiar with it, parmo is a dish typical to the North East, more towards Middlesbrough/Teeside. Put simply, parmo is breaded chicken or pork, topped with white bechamel sauce and smothered in cheddar cheese, which is then baked so that all the ingredients melt and ooze...

The Thomas Cubitt, Belgravia, London

Friday Published by 5 Comments

I hate writing negative posts, partly because I feel bad, but also because I really don’t want to waste any more of my time on them. Reluctantly, I’m writing this brief post. Recently I went to a lovely looking pub called The Thomas Cubitt in Belgravia, London. It’s a sister pub to The Orange, which I like for the friendly atmosphere and consistently great food I’ve had there. I had high hopes for The Thomas Cubitt because I’ve always loved The Orange. It’s not the burger that’s the biggest problem at The Thomas Cubitt. The burger is…well it’s fine. It’s...

Wet Burgers, Istanbul, Turkey – Best Burgers In Istanbul?

Wednesday Published by 3 Comments

Kizilkayalar Burger lovers are always going on about soggy buns. You can’t blame them, it’s pretty rank to bite into a burger and find the bottom has been soaked in a limp unnecessary tomato making the whole thing wet and claggy. Yuck. That’s why on a recent trip to Istanbul I was a bit wary of the legendary ‘wet burgers’ that my local friend told me I must try. Wet burgers are all the rage in the city, and local residents are apparently partial to a wet burger or five at the end of a big night out (I can’t...

Review: Burgers At The Parlour Pub, Manchester

Tuesday Published by 2 Comments

This is the third burger I’ve had in Manchester and I’m beginning to think I should relocate. If I did move, I’d want to live in Chorlton so The Parlour could be my local. The Parlour is a cosy pub in a laid back part of Manchester called Chorlton.  There’s a real sense of community here – in fact the The Parlour recently won the title of Best Roast in the UK in the Observer Food Monthly Awards, partly of course due to the outstanding roast, but also due to the supportive residents. When my burger loving Mancunian friend suggested...

Sabrina Ghayour’s Persian Supper Club, London

Tuesday Published by 1 Comment

Despite what many of my ramblings on here might suggest, I don’t only eat burgers. I’m always trying different cuisines, especially those I am less inclined to cook at home. So when I heard about the kind of food coming out of Sabrina Ghayour’s Persian supper club, I had to give it a go. Sabrina holds her ‘Persian Kitchen’ every couple of months in London and advises guests to “come hungry”. She spends the day cooking up a storm in the kitchen before you arrive at 7pm for a meal, which you enjoy around a table of other food loving...

Burger Bear, Various Locations, London

Saturday Published by 1 Comment

*Burger Bear has moved on from this market so tweet him to find out where he will be before you visit!  Admission: Extra points already to Burger Bear as I have discovered that Tom (aka the Burger Bear) is a fellow Springsteen fan!! Wahay!  Tom is the first burger flipper to reveal this to me and it makes me very happy. However, Springsteen loving aside (and don’t fret I have put it aside for this post) the ‘Burger Bear‘ also makes some of the best burgers, for a reasonable price, in London. I recently headed to the North of London...

Review: Cameron Highlands Resort, Malaysia – Best Burger In Malaysia

Monday Published by Leave your thoughts

Double Wagyu Burger After my flourescent dirty burger in Kuala Lumpur, I vowed I wouldn’t be having another burger until I was back on UK turf. Sometimes however, life presents you with opportunities you just can’t say no to. The ‘carpe diem’ of the burger world, ‘seize the day’….Eat. More. Burgers. I think I would have been able to stick to my vow if it hadn’t been for this particular double wagyu beef burger. I left Kuala Lumpur and headed for the Cameron Highlands Resort in the highlands of Malaysia, set in a region famed for endless tea plantations, strawberry...

2012 Burgers and Bruce (Springsteen)Tour Highlights

Monday Published by 2 Comments

2012 saw the beginnings of Burgers and Bruce and it’s been a mighty burger eating and Bruce watching year.  With hundreds of pounds spent (I can’t bring myself to do the calculations), I’ve seen six live Springsteen shows and eaten over 50 burgers worldwide (again, I can’t bring myself to do the calculations). April 2012 was when the fun began, as I sat in the world famous Shake Shack New York before seeing Springsteen and the band for the first of two dates at Madison Square Gardens that night. Fuelled by an excitement for both topics, I decided to start...

Review: Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Monday Published by 1 Comment

I’m currently away in Malaysia, and as much as I’m indulging in a worrying amount of Malaysian street food (more on that shortly), I wouldn’t be fulfilling my burger blogging duties if I didn’t check out the capital’s burger offerings during my visit. Burgers and Bruce is going global (again)! In Kuala Lumpur, there’s a burger option with a legendary reputation, and I was desperate to check them out: Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw. Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw started in 2011, calling itself the ‘first street kiosk for grilled burgers in Malaysia’ – and they really are driving the city wild....

Byron Burgers (All Over Town!)

Friday Published by Leave your thoughts

What a pretty looking burger Byron Burger and Skinny Burger Not long ago I was planning to meet up with a friend who is on really mental diet, no carbs, no sugar…no fun basically. She insisted that we could go out for a burger and she would ”remove the bun and the cheese, scrape off the sauce and not eat the chips”. I really didn’t think I could go through the trauma of seeing a burger treated liked that. Instead I racked my brains of somewhere healthy she might be able to eat, before a hazy memory of seeing a...
